What do you do?
I was chatting away to an Uber driver the other day and after a little while he asked me ‘what do you do?’
After fighting my first response (which would have been to say, I spend my life driving to kids sporting venues, constantly filling my car with petrol, and picking up other peoples dirty shoes and socks) I was aware he was asking about what sort of work I do. I replied with, me and some mates have a physio-based health studio in Goodwood and we help clients get over their pain and injury hurdles so they can excel at the things they really want to be doing.
As we chatted away, it reminded me of what we actually ‘do’ at The Physio Studio. And the important aspects we talked about weren’t focused on the latest physio treatment technique, or the benefits of stretching vs ice – but about how we go about listening to clients, thoroughly assessing their problem and relevant limitations, and then working together to find a meaningful and lasting solution. With that solution so often involving guiding them on ways to progress their overall health, function and fitness to a point where they can get back to activity without having to be limited by their initial problem.
I think the discussion was probably enlightening for this guy who hadn’t been to the physio for a number of years and who may have underestimated the depth of assessment and planning we go to for our clients in order for them to get the outcome they deserve.
So that’s what we ‘do’ at The Physio Studio, we wont always get it 100% correct and won’t always be able to help every client as much as we would love to, but our team aim to give clients our best effort, every time when they come to see us for assistance.
I don’t expect I’ll ever bump in to that driver again, but hope that if he does ever need to see a physio that he receives the quality and level of care we talked about.
