Open Up to the World of Clinical Exercise
Clinical exercise is centred around building strength and improving balance, control, and flexibility, helping you to feel, move, and perform better. By focusing on these aspects of a person’s physical function, it aims to enhance the body as a whole through its comprehensive and holistic approach. While much of the focus is around the aim of feeling better physically, many people also find that clinical exercise helps to improve their ability to perform day-to-day activities with added confidence.
What benefits does Clinical Exercise & Pilates offer?
Exercises recommended by a physio can help with:
- Managing lower back, neck and spinal pain
- Managing rehabilitation for sporting injuries and spinal injuries
- Enhancing postural awareness and control
- Increasing quality of movement to help in your sport, work or hobbies
- Improving stomach muscle tone
- Enhancing body awareness
What can I expect from my Clinical Pilates Exercise Program?
A personalised program for your needs
At The Physio Studio, our highly trained sports physiotherapists are qualified in using a range of exercises including strength training, the clinical Pilates method, and balance and flexibility training, and will establish a program specifically for you. Following a thorough initial assessment, we develop your program over a series of 1:1 sessions.
Once you have completed your sessions and feel confident with your program, you can take part in our Studio Equipment classes. Those who are comfortable with their routine may also choose to become a casual studio member, gaining access to the equipment outside scheduled classes.
Our Pilates Studio
Our air-conditioned Pilates studio is fully equipped and home to our EQUIP Pilates classes. Clients can take part in supervised Pilates-based sessions throughout the week or book private 1:1 sessions with our physiotherapists for focused guidance.
Our sessions incorporate a variety of equipment, including Pilates reformers, chi balls, trapeze tables, and balance balls, ensuring a workout that is both engaging and effective. The added resistance from the equipment supports a full-body workout while focusing on core stability. Whether you’re managing back or neck discomfort, dealing with other aches or pains, or looking to enhance your core strength, Pilates—through group classes or private sessions—could be the ideal way to support your fitness goals.
Meet Our Certified Pilates Instructors
Our Clinical Pilates program is run by our experienced team of physiotherapists with clinical knowledge and training in sports physiotherapy and Pilates. Members of the team are DMA Pilates Physiotherapists and also have training from the KX Academy, making them well-rounded and incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to Pilates.
The DMA approach is widely regarded as the leading method for clinical Pilates among physiotherapists. Unlike traditional Pilates, it focuses on identifying the underlying causes of symptoms rather than just managing them. At The Physio Studio, director Sean Bushby is a level 4 DMA Pilates physiotherapist, and Scott Palmer holds a level 1 certification. Our team of six skilled physios is eager to welcome you and help you get started with Pilates.
Explore Our Pilates Classes
Our skilled physiotherapists oversee every class, maintaining a supportive environment with a maximum of 6 clients per session for focused guidance.
EQUIP (Reformer Pilates)
We call our reformer Pilates classes EQUIP because they help equip you build balance, movement, and endurance. These studio equipment clinical Pilates sessions feature Pilates reformers alongside other tools like chi balls. If you’re looking to master Pilates exercises using a reformer, EQUIP is the perfect choice.
Vital
Core strength is essential, but Pilates reformers aren’t always needed! Our Vital classes offer mat-based Pilates, with exercises performed on the floor to enhance strength, endurance, and posture—showing that an effective workout doesn’t always require equipment.
Pregnancy Pilates
Prenatal exercise can be incorporated into our studio equipment classes. Our physiotherapists provide personalised recommendations based on your health, pregnancy stage, and experience level. Contact us for further details. Additionally, our floor-based Vital Pilates classes may be a suitable choice throughout pregnancy.
Answers to Your Clinical Pilates Questions
Yes, discounts are available on term passes and other payment options.
Clinical Pilates and reformer Pilates have similarities but differ in focus, application, and purpose. Clinical Pilates is prescribed and supervised by professionals such as our certified Pilates instructors, and is tailored to address individual needs and injuries while aiding in injury rehab and improving physical function.
Reformer Pilates is a type of Pilates exercise using specialised equipment. This form of Pilates targets strength, flexibility, and stability, and is generally used for general fitness rather than clinical rehabilitation.
There is no set rule for how often to do Clinical Pilates, but starting with one to two sessions per week is generally recommended. Your needs may vary based on fitness level or any injuries, and you can modify your schedule as you progress.
- Low back pain
- Neck pain
- Shoulder pain
- Joint injuries
- Injury rehab
- Sports injuries
- Neurological conditions
- Prenatal or postnatal care
