Step into the World of Clinical Exercise
Clinical exercise is centred around building strength and improving balance, control, and flexibility, helping you to feel, move, and perform better. By focusing on these aspects of a person’s physical function, it aims to enhance the body as a whole through its comprehensive and holistic approach. While much of the focus is around the aim of feeling better physically, many people also find that clinical exercise helps to improve their ability to perform day-to-day activities with added confidence.
What can Clinical Exercise & Pilates help with?
Physio-guided exercises may support:
- Addressing lower back, neck, and spinal pain
- Rehabilitating sporting injuries and spinal injuries
- Developing better postural awareness and control
- Improving movement for better performance in sport, work, or hobbies
- Improving stomach muscle tone
- Developing better body awareness
What can I expect from my Clinical Pilates Exercise Program?
A program specific to YOU
At The Physio Studio, our experienced sports physiotherapists provide tailored exercise programs incorporating strength training, clinical Pilates, and balance and flexibility exercises. Your personalised plan is created after a detailed assessment and refined through one-on-one sessions.
After building confidence with your program through a full course of sessions, you can join our Studio Equipment classes. Participants who are comfortable with their exercises may also opt for casual studio membership, allowing independent access to the equipment outside of class hours.
Inside Our Pilates Studio
In our well-equipped, climate-controlled Pilates studio, we run EQUIP Pilates classes, offering a variety of supervised sessions each week. Clients can also choose personalised 1:1 sessions with our physiotherapists for tailored support.
Our sessions incorporate a variety of equipment, including Pilates reformers, chi balls, trapeze tables, and balance balls, ensuring a workout that is both engaging and effective. The added resistance from the equipment supports a full-body workout while focusing on core stability. Whether you’re managing back or neck discomfort, dealing with other aches or pains, or looking to enhance your core strength, Pilates—through group classes or private sessions—could be the ideal way to support your fitness goals.
Our Skilled and Certified Pilates Instructors
Led by physiotherapists with extensive training in sports physiotherapy and Pilates, our Clinical Pilates program is guided by professionals with certifications in DMA Pilates and additional training from the KX Academy, ensuring a well-informed and thorough approach.
The DMA method is considered the gold standard for clinical Pilates for physiotherapists. This Pilates model is unique in that it aims to understand the problems behind the symptoms that many people come to Pilates classes to try to address. Our director, physiotherapist Sean Bushby, is a level 4 DMA Pilates physiotherapist, while fellow The Physio Studio physiotherapist Scott Palmer holds a level 1 DMA Pilates certification. Our team of 6 experienced and knowledgeable physios at The Physio Studio can’t wait to meet you and get started on your Pilates journey!
Pilates Classes We Offer
Our skilled physiotherapists oversee every class, maintaining a supportive environment with a maximum of 6 clients per session for focused guidance.
EQUIP (Reformer Pilates)
Named EQUIP because they prepare and equip you for improved balance, mobility, and endurance, our reformer Pilates classes incorporate Pilates reformers and other equipment like chi balls. If your goal is to develop Pilates skills on a reformer, EQUIP is the ideal class to join.
Vital
Your core muscles are vital, but Pilates reformers aren’t always vital to every Pilates session! Our Vital classes are mat-based, where exercises are done on mats on the floor. Proving equipment isn’t always necessary to a Pilates workout, mat Pilates in our Vital classes also aim to improve core muscle strength, endurance, and posture.
Pregnancy Pilates
We offer studio equipment classes that can support prenatal exercise. Our physiotherapists will guide you on suitable sessions and movements based on your health, pregnancy stage, and prior experience. Feel free to reach out for more details. Our mat-based Vital Pilates classes may also be a good option during pregnancy.
Frequently Asked Questions About Clinical Pilates
Yes, discounts are available on term passes and other payment options.
Clinical Pilates is distinct from Reformer Pilates in its focus and application. It is led by trained professionals and designed to support rehabilitation, address injuries, and enhance overall function.
Reformer Pilates involves specialised equipment and focuses on strength, flexibility, and stability, making it more suited to general fitness than rehabilitation.
The frequency of Clinical Pilates sessions is a personal choice, though we typically recommend beginning with one or two sessions per week. Your ideal schedule may vary depending on fitness level, injuries, or specific needs, and you can adjust as you build strength, flexibility, and balance.
- Low back pain
- Neck pain
- Shoulder pain
- Joint injuries
- Injury rehab
- Sports injuries
- Neurological conditions
- Prenatal or postnatal care
