By addressing key areas of physical ability, it works to support the body as a whole through a well-rounded approach. While improving physical comfort is a key goal, many also experience greater ease and confidence in their everyday activities.
What benefits does Clinical Exercise & Pilates offer?
Exercises recommended by a physio can help with:
- Supporting lower back, neck, and spinal pain
- Recovering from sporting injuries and spinal injuries
- Enhancing postural awareness and control
- Enhancing movement quality for sport, work, or hobbies
- Enhancing stomach muscle tone
- Developing better body awareness
What should I know about my Clinical Pilates Exercise Program?
A tailored program designed just for you
The Physio Studio offers individually designed exercise programs led by our skilled sports physiotherapists, incorporating strength work, clinical Pilates, and flexibility and balance training. After a comprehensive assessment, your program is developed and adjusted over a series of 1:1sessions.
After building confidence with your program through a full course of sessions, you can join our Studio Equipment classes. Participants who are comfortable with their exercises may also opt for casual studio membership, allowing independent access to the equipment outside of class hours.
Inside Our Pilates Studio
In our well-equipped, climate-controlled Pilates studio, we run EQUIP Pilates classes, offering a variety of supervised sessions each week. Clients can also choose personalised 1:1 sessions with our physiotherapists for tailored support.
Our classes and sessions include using equipment such as Pilates reformers, chi balls, trapeze tables, balance balls, and more, making them fun as well as functional! We find that the use of equipment increases resistance to give clients an entire body workout while also aiming to improve core stability. Whether you’re experiencing back pain, neck pain, pain elsewhere in the body, or simply want to improve your core fitness, Pilates exercises— whether in group classes or 1:1— may be the strengthening workout your body has been waiting for you to try.
Our Skilled and Certified Pilates Instructors
Our Clinical Pilates program is led by a skilled team of physiotherapists with expertise in sports physiotherapy and Pilates. With qualifications in DMA Pilates and training from the KX Academy, our team brings a comprehensive understanding of movement and exercise.
Recognised as the benchmark for clinical Pilates in physiotherapy, the DMA method takes a distinctive approach by identifying the root causes behind symptoms that bring many people to Pilates. At The Physio Studio, our director Sean Bushby holds a level 4 DMA Pilates qualification, while physiotherapist Scott Palmer is certified at level 1. With a team of six dedicated physios, we’re excited to support you in your Pilates journey.

Our skilled physiotherapists oversee every class, maintaining a supportive environment with a maximum of 6 clients per session for focused guidance.
EQUIP (Reformer Pilates)
We call our reformer Pilates classes EQUIP because they help equip you build balance, movement, and endurance. These studio equipment clinical Pilates sessions feature Pilates reformers alongside other tools like chi balls. If you’re looking to master Pilates exercises using a reformer, EQUIP is the perfect choice.
Vital
Your core muscles are vital, but Pilates reformers aren’t always vital to every Pilates session! Our Vital classes are mat-based, where exercises are done on mats on the floor. Proving equipment isn’t always necessary to a Pilates workout, mat Pilates in our Vital classes also aim to improve core muscle strength, endurance, and posture.
Pregnancy Pilates
Our studio equipment classes can accommodate prenatal exercise. Our physiotherapists can advise on what classes and exercises are suitable for you depending on your health, stage of pregnancy, and prenatal experience. Please feel free to contact us for more information. Our floor-based Vital Pilates classes may also be appropriate during pregnancy.

Clinical Pilates and reformer Pilates have similarities but differ in focus, application, and purpose. Clinical Pilates is prescribed and supervised by professionals such as our certified Pilates instructors, and is tailored to address individual needs and injuries while aiding in injury rehab and improving physical function.
Reformer Pilates involves specialised equipment and focuses on strength, flexibility, and stability, making it more suited to general fitness than rehabilitation.
How often you do clinical Pilates is ultimately up to you, however we generally suggest starting with one to two sessions per week. This suggestion may differ for you depending on factors such as your fitness level, any existing injuries or conditions, and so on. As you progress and develop strength, balance, and flexibility, you may wish to change how frequently you do clinical Pilates as well.
