While the current statewide Lockdown in SA has the real potential to have a significant effect on our health and well-being, do your best to keep up with routines that give you the best chance of maintaining a healthy body and mind.

Health Tips for Lockdown

  • If you have been managing a specific injury, use this time to continue to work on your home exercises/strategies as best you can.
  • While at home – Find ways to KEEP MOVING – Whether working from home, or studying a short course of Netflix… find reasons to get up and move, often. Aim to move every 30 minutes as a minimum, into body positions that are different to those positions you’ve been static in – stretch, dance, skip, walk laps of the house, whatever it takes to keep you moving!
  • If using online workouts and there are plenty of great ones out there, start gradually.. We saw a spike in new injuries last year from clients going too hard too soon. Start moderately in your efforts especially if undertaking exercise that your body is not accustomed to.
  • Getting out for fresh air is important. Within govt guidelines, use your 90 minutes to get regular daily exercise – this could be walking, jogging, cycling or any other form you enjoy, and ideally look to do something that raises your heart rate. But again, remember the concept of gradual loading, if you haven’t jogged in 6 months, this week isn’t the time to run a half marathon, maybe start with a few short jogging intervals during your daily walk. Look for the positives, getting back to regular exercise this week could be the jumpstart to achieving a new activity goal in the weeks and months ahead.
  • Eat well and drink plenty of water.
  • Technology can be a great way to stay connected and entertained, but also look for opportunities to “switch off” for times during each day; read a book, meditate, breathe or do some yoga to help keep the balance.
  • Keep in touch with friends and loved ones, be kind and patient to yourself, and others.

Stay safe and well everyone. If we can help in anyway, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.
